Steve Upham has been involved with the Community Futures program for nine years, and his term as Chair of the Community Futures St. Paul-Smoky Lake Board of Directors is ending. During the presentation of the award, it was noted Steve has led with consideration and compassion, and that he understands the ‘beating heart’ of small communities and rural life.

“I am honored to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award,” said Steve. “The interests of the County of St. Paul and the surrounding communities is a priority in my role as Reeve and as a member of Community Futures. It is in all of our interests to support small business development and rural economic diversification.”

The winner of this year's award was selected by a panel of Community Futures members from across the province. There are twenty-seven offices across Alberta with more than 250 volunteer board members.
